HVC Hot Cake Maduro Half Corona
HVC Cigars, founded by Reinier Lorenzo, produces its cigars in Estelí, Nicaragua, at Fábrica de Tabacos HVC S.A. Hot Cake was introduced in 2020 as a regular production line after the limited Pan Caliente release. The original blend uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper with a Nicaraguan binder and filler. After HVC launched Hot Cake Golden with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, the original blend was marketed as Hot Cake Maduro. The company added a Half Corona to the Maduro line in December 2023.

First Half
Very slight, sweet chocolate note on the light with some pepper, and some savory notes on the finish. Very late into the finish is sort of brownie note comes in which is very interesting. A slightly sweet fruit note is coming through as well with the now heavy brownie note on the finish, very unique and enjoyable. A slight note of cedar is now mixing with the brownie note, and some pepper has added to the finish. The spice picks up a little bit as I'm nearing the end of the first third, the cedar is now matched with the brownie note creating an interesting fusion. Some leather is starting to come out as well but very light. The pepper is starting to jump out a little bit in the flavor profile, cedar is still present and there are chocolate nose but not the brownie notes from before.
Second Half
Slight coffee pepper on the finish. Chocolate notice turning into more of a bittersweet chocolate/ dark chocolate note, very enjoyable retro, smooth finish. A spiced caramel note is present, mixing with the bittersweet chocolate, and a cinnamon coffee note on the finish. Surprising amount of flavor for such a small cigar. An earthy cedar note is coming out and mixing with the bittersweet chocolate notes. Slight white pepper finish. Main notes are an earthy cedar mixed with dark chocolate and just a hint of the brownie from the first third. Light white pepper on the finish and after a while on the finish a coffee note appears. Nearing the end, some of the caramel notes are becoming stronger, the brownie note is back more so than previously, and there's an earthy coffee finish. At the very end, cedar and leather are taking over the profile and the bittersweet chocolate note has amplified as well. More pepper on the finish.
