Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo Makes Its Debut in a New Four-Cigar Sampler

General Cigar Co., part of Scandinavian Tobacco Group, is introducing a new line under its Honduran-made Hoyo de Monterrey brand this month through a sampler pack. The Hoyo New Legends Sampler includes the new Le Hoyo blend before that line is scheduled to arrive in standalone boxes.
The four-pack contains one 6 x 52 Toro from each of four current or incoming lines: Hoyo de Monterrey Oscuro, Hoyo de Monterrey Rojo, Hoyo de Monterrey Shade, and Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo. Suggested retail price is $27.59.
Le Hoyo is produced at STG’s Danlí factory in Honduras by the facility’s most experienced rollers. The blend uses a Honduran OSA wrapper over a U.S. Broadleaf binder. The filler mix includes Dominican Piloto leaf, Honduran tobacco from La Entrada (Corojo 2012) and the Jamastrán Valley (Broadleaf), plus Nicaraguan leaf from Estelí.
A boxed launch of Le Hoyo is expected months from now. Three sizes have been announced: Rothschild (4½ x 50), Toro (6 x 52), and Gigante (6 x 60). Pricing, box counts, and an exact ship date for those boxed versions have not been released. Scott Abney, brand manager for Hoyo de Monterrey, said in a press release, the sampler puts “the best of our brand on offer for our fans” and gives them a chance to try Le Hoyo “alongside three classic Honduran cigars.” He added that the four cigars together “represent different elements of the legendary Hoyo story.
”This Le Hoyo line is separate from the Cuban Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo series sold by Habanos S.A. outside the United States. The two companies are unrelated. General Cigar’s version of the brand is sold in the U.S. market.
The other three cigars in the pack already have their own identities. Oscuro and Rojo arrived in 2024 as part of a brand refresh. Oscuro uses a dark Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper over an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and a Dominican-Honduran-Nicaraguan filler blend; it is positioned as medium-plus. Rojo uses a Honduran Jamastrán wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and a similar three-country filler mix, described as medium-bodied. Shade, which began shipping in June 2025, is an all-Honduran blend with a shade-grown wrapper and is marketed as the mildest, or “mellow,” option in the current family.
All four lines are made at the Danlí factory. The sampler groups a Brazilian-wrapped Oscuro, a Honduran-wrapper Rojo, an all-Honduran Shade, and the new multi-country Le Hoyo. Retailers are expected to begin receiving the Hoyo New Legends Sampler in September. Boxed production of the three Le Hoyo sizes is expected several months later.
