Brick House Maduro
Brick House is a J.C. Newman Cigar Company brand named after the ancestral Hungarian home of company founder Julius Caeser Newman. The original blend was Cuban, and the brand was later revived as a Nicaraguan puro. The Maduro line debuted in 2012 with the 6 x 60 Mighty Mighty, the first maduro in the Brick House family. A 5 x 54 Robusto followed in 2013, a 6 x 52 Toro in 2016, and the 5½ x 70 Commodore in 2026. The cigars are made at J.C. Newman's PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

First Third
Chocolate and woody notes on the light, with a good amount of woody pepper on the retrohale and finish. On the palate, chocolate, cedar and salted peanuts, with cedar and pepper on the retrohale and finish. A slight anise note comes through, along with a peppery, nutty note and a little salinity. Chocolate and salted peanuts on the finish. Near the end of the first third, a good amount of leather comes through, with an earthy note as well.
Second Third
The second third opens with an earthy chocolate nose and a mineral salinity. There's a tanginess on the finish. Cedar comes back in alongside the chocolate and stays throughout the cigar. A bitter note has been hinting at itself so far, and it comes out more in this third. It hasn't overtaken everything, but it is certainly stronger than at the start. The bitterness shows up at times and hides at others, while chocolate tends to be the prevailing note, with a little tang and salinity on the finish.
Final Third
Chocolate is the main note, with the same bitterness coming out every now and then and slowly getting stronger. The finish is earthy, with cedar and chocolate, and at times cedar and pepper. The bitterness gets harder to ignore, then chocolate comes back out and the bitter note evolves into a tangy one with only a slightly bitter aftertaste. A slight coffee note enters the mix, but the bitterness kicks back up again. I must be having a one off bad experience with this one, very bitter. I’ll have to try again at some point.
