Wildfire Cigar Co. Wanderer

Wildfire Cigar Co. is the brand Jeremy McDonald launched in 2021. Wanderer is a regular production line he showed at the 2023 Total Product Expo and shipped that March, alongside the limited Intro. It was also his first cigar rolled at Fábrica Centroamericana de Tabaco S.A. in Danlí, Honduras, after his earlier work at Joya de Nicaragua. The blend uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Nicaraguan habano binder, and filler from the Dominican Republic, Pennsylvania, Jalapa, and Paraguay. McDonald called it a cigar built for richness and strength, with less common tobaccos set next to something familiar. It comes in a corona, a robusto, and a toro.

First Third

Nutty and sweet earthy notes at the light, with a definite sweetness to the aroma. Nutty chocolate notes come out as the first third continues, along with a good amount of sweetness. Some pepper and chocolate develop on the finish and retrohale. The nutty sweetness keeps coming through, with some creamy, peppery coffee notes on the finish. There is a hint of some kind of dried fruit in the sweetness.

Toward the end of the first third, pepper comes in and out, while the sweetness and the nutty notes stay consistent. Coffee is a nice addition at the end of the third, along with an almost cake-like, bread note.

Second Third

A cedar note starts to come out prominently. The earthiness continues, and the sweetness takes a backseat but still influences the overall flavor profile. Pepper picks up a little but remains very enjoyable. The sweetness comes in and out alongside big bits of cedar, with a slightly creamy coffee and peppery note on the finish.

Dark chocolate notes emerge, along with a hint of dark cherry. Creamy coffee continues on the finish, with baking spices and pepper. Toward the end of the second third, a sweet, nutty coffee note starts to come out, and the finish stays creamy, with coffee and pepper.

Final Third

Pepper and earth come out strongly, with a creamy pepper still on the finish. Cedar and pepper are the forward notes on the palate, with a creamy cedar-pepper finish. The profile has shifted toward cedar, dark chocolate and pepper. The sweetness from the first two thirds has slowly dissipated as the flavor profile has evolved.

The finish stays creamy and peppery, with an almost tequila-like note that is very interesting alongside the earthy, peppery chocolate notes.
