Tatuaje Corojo 2025 PCA Exclusive

Tatuaje has made a PCA Exclusive nearly every year since the release began, but the 2025 edition marks a shift for the series. Where past PCA Exclusives leaned on a Capa Especial (Sumatra) wrapper, Pete Johnson turned to Nicaraguan corojo for this one, following the same corojo push he's used across several Tatuaje projects. The cigar is a 5 5/8 x 54 robusto, an all Nicaraguan puro built at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, and it's available only to retailers who attended and ordered at the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show, with no public production numbers disclosed.

Review

First Third

Notes of dried berry on the covered foot. Once lit, lots of notes of chocolate, and the berries coming back as well. Slight sweetness with the chocolate and coffee on the finish. Lots of smoke, phenomenal draw. Some pepper picking up with the berry sweetness and chocolate mush. Berry and pepper on the finish. Sweetness continues in a very subtle way, keeping the berry note alive and enjoyable, getting dark chocolate notes and espresso notes from time to time with some pepper on the finish. After a time, lots of chocolate coming out on the finish, obviously a long finish. At the end of the first third, chocolate, berry, and pepper are the main notes, with light espresso notes every so often.

Second Third

Starting the second third, the berry is sort of transitioning to more of a general floral note, still paired with the chocolate, and the coffee is coming out stronger now than it was before. A cedar or woody note is starting to come out with the slight sweetness and pepper on the finish. The berry is still there but faint and in the background compared to the cedar. There's still a lingering sweetness on the finish as well. Berry notes still continuing into the second half of the second third, the pepper is starting to pick up on the retrohale and on the palate. Still a fruity sweetness with a creamy chocolate and espresso note on the finish. There was a hint of cream in the first third, but it's coming out quite nicely in the second third. Pepper is coming out even more, and a slight savory note is added as well. Very complex and enjoyable.

Final Third

A faint sweet cinnamon note is coming out in the final third. The berry notes continue, still with a creaminess and pepper on the finish. Pepper is picking up more, the sweetness is still there but nowhere near as present. Still with a creamy mouthfeel and pepper and cedar on the finish. A campfire and s'mores note is coming out in the final third, still some sweetness on the finish, and the coffee or espresso notes are coming back on the finish with pepper as well. Cedar and pepper are starting to make up a larger portion of the flavor profile, pepper getting quite heavy as I'm getting near the end of the cigar. Still some chocolate notes and espresso notes with pepper on the finish. Getting some of that campfire and s'mores note on the aroma, still lots of pepper on the palate and finish, but staying complex.
