Slight pepper and black coffee sit on the finish, with pepper also present on the retrohale. Sweetness starts to peek through alongside the cedar and nutty coffee, creating a nice balance between the flavors. Grassy cedar and pepper close out the draws. More cedar develops as the first third progresses. Paired with the sweetness, some grassy earth and slight baking spices come in, while coffee and pepper remain on the finish. By the end of the first third, sweetness and coffee are more prominent with just a touch of pepper.

Second third

The second third opens with cream and coffee notes and a little pepper on the finish. Very enjoyable. Slight floral notes mix with black coffee, adding welcome complexity. More coffee develops as the third continues, still carrying a sweet nutty aroma. A sweet cedar note keeps returning. Halfway through, the profile is heavy on coffee with sweet nutty cedar and a touch of white pepper on a medium finish. Sweet cream and coffee grow stronger, still finished by light white pepper. Toward the end of the second third, more cedar comes through with a white pepper or almost minty note on the finish.

final third

Cedar and floral notes start the final third, with a very rich cedar flavor. As it continues, the floral notes expand while black coffee stays on the finish. The evolution from the earlier thirds is clear and helps explain why this is considered a classic and best-selling smoke. Sweet floral notes appear on the retrohale with no pepper, though a slight pepper remains on the finish — surprising so late in the cigar. Halfway through the final third, sweet cedar returns with a bit of earth and light white pepper. Sweet cedar continues, joined by almond in the aroma and a minty white pepper finish. In the closing minutes the aroma becomes a strong sweet nutty wood, with sweet woody notes on the palate and just a touch of pepper on the finish.
