Micallef Cigars was founded in 2016 by Texas entrepreneur Al Micallef, who partnered with the Gómez Sánchez family, a Cuban tobacco family with roots going back to 1934. Every Micallef cigar is rolled in Estelí, Nicaragua, at the family’s factory.
Herencia, Spanish for “heritage,” is the line that honors that Cuban lineage. The Herencia Habano pairs a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper with an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers. It’s a medium-bodied blend, and the tobaccos are aged for four years. It first arrived as a box-pressed torpedo (5.5 x 52) and was joined in mid-2020 by a round 6 x 52 Toro, released alongside the Herencia Maduro Toro with an MSRP of $12.

Review
First Third
Cedar, pepper, and a dry chocolate note come out on the light, with some slight nutty flavors on the finish. Earthy, woody notes follow, leaning toward cedar, with some pepper and dark chocolate on the finish. Cream and floral notes come out very slightly on the finish. Cedar with a slight nutty note on the palate, with a very slight sweet roasted coffee and floral notes on the finish. At the end of the first third, the floral note is quite present, with the continued cedar, chocolate, and very, very light sweetness.
Second Third
A cinnamon note is starting to come out, and the cream notes are very light but still present, with some pepper on the finish. Sweetness comes out more in the second third with a brighter cedar note, reminding me of walking into a HomeGoods store or a fall candle store. Slightly sweet, earthy leather and coffee notes come through. The leather is very, very light but present on the palate and finish. Creamy notes are there but very, very faint on the finish.
Final Third
Roasted coffee notes and almost a maple sweetness come through, very, very subtle but still present. Cream and roasted coffee notes are on the finish. Cedar comes back in the final third, with earthy, woody notes coming through. More cedar and pepper as the final third progresses. Tight draw through the whole cigar.
