Eladio Diaz “Mi Vieja” releases this Fall

Eladio Diaz’s upcoming release is personal. The cigar is called Mi Vieja. It means “my old lady,” the affectionate Dominican way of saying “my mother.” It is the third regular-production line Diaz has put his own name on, following Before & After and La Diana. The blend is made with a Connecticut-seed wrapper from Ecuador; a Dominican Corojo-seed binder and a filler blend of Dominican Havana 2000, Criollo ’98 and Piloto Cubano. There’s also some Peruvian Pelo de Oro in the filler. Everything is rolled at Tabacalera Diaz Cabrera, the factory Diaz opened in 2022. Three sizes will ship in boxes of twenty, each size name is connected to a part of Diaz’s life :

- ENB, a 4¾ x 43, named for Ensanchez Bermudez, the Santiago neighborhood where he was born.  

- El Ejido, a 5 x 50, named for the first factory that ever put him to work.  

- M. Santiago, a 6 x 52, named for his mother. Her portrait appears on the band and on the inside lid of the box.

Prices have not been disclosed yet, but the company expects them to land between ten and fifteen dollars when the cigars reach shelves in November. Whether the cigars themselves live up to the quiet poetry Diaz uses to describe them is something we’ll all get to discover in the fall.
