Caldwell Cigar Co. reissues Eastern Standard Silk Road Lancero

Caldwell Cigar Co. has reissued the Eastern Standard Silk Road Lancero, a size last produced in 2014. The cigar is exclusive to Smokingpipes and began shipping Aug. 28, 2026.Smokingpipes said the run is 240 boxes of 10, a total of 2,400 cigars. The vitola is 7.25 inches by 40 ring gauge. The cigars are made at Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic, the factory that produced the original release. Halfwheel reported a price of $13.60 per cigar, or $136 per box.

Silk Road was the first cigar Caldwell labeled a limited edition. Contemporary coverage from 2014 said the company showed the lancero at that year’s IPCPR trade show and shipped 500 boxes of 24, or 12,000 cigars, at $12 each. After that allocation sold, the size was not made again.

Smokingpipes, which sells the revival and shares a parent company with Caldwell, describes the 2026 cigar as the original Eastern Standard blend in lancero format. In a company interview, the wrapper was identified as a Connecticut Arapiraca hybrid. The binder is Dominican. The filler is Dominican Criollo ’98, aged Dominican corojo and Nicaraguan habano.That official description does not match some independent reports published the same week that called the wrapper an Ecuadorian habano. Smokingpipes’ own account puts the leaf in the dark Connecticut hybrid family used on Eastern Standard.

Company staff said the thinner ring gauge concentrates the blend and puts more of the hybrid wrapper into the smoke than larger Eastern Standard sizes such as Cakewalk and Cream Crush. They also said a 2014 Silk Road smoked more than a decade later had aged well, while founder Robert Caldwell prefers the cigar relatively fresh. Caldwell, quoted by Smokingpipes, still ranks Silk Road among the best cigars the company has made.

Laudisi Enterprises acquired Caldwell in 2024 and owns Smokingpipes. The exclusive keeps the small production run with a single retailer. The cigars are not being sold through other shops.
