A Surprising experience with the Gellis Family Marevas

I found a cigar in my humidor the other day that I had completely forgotten about. The Gellis Family Marevas from Warped, the people up in Jupiter Florida. I only noticed it because I was watching an episode of Creekside Cigar Co. and there was that band again staring back at me from the screen. It stopped me cold for a second. So I got up, opened the humidor, and started shifting things around until there it was sitting in my own box like it had been waiting patiently for me all this time.

I am not one of those fellows who keeps careful track of every single stick he owns. New ones arrive, older ones get pushed to the back, and life goes on with its usual noise and distractions. This one was a corona, my first of that size if you can believe it. I had always stuck to the bigger formats and never given the smaller ones much thought. I clipped it carefully, held a flame to it, and lit it mostly out of curiosity and half expecting it to be just another average smoke that would pass the time without much to say.

Instead it surprised me with a sweetness and flavor I had not expected and carried that same perfect balance all the way through. I sat there with it for a while, watching the smoke drift and realizing how much this kind of unexpected pleasure matters. It's the sort of discovery that reminds you why you keep coming back to try new things.

There is something special about moments like that in this whole cigar life. You buy them with a certain hope, you put them away carefully in the dark of the humidor, and then one day you rediscover one that reminds you why the ritual matters so much. The slow pace of it. The way a well made stick can settle your thoughts without asking for anything in return. The quiet satisfaction of knowing you have something worthwhile waiting for you when the day finally slows down.

I finished it and right away ordered two more sticks. They are due to show up today and I will get them settled in the humidor with the respect they deserve. I want to see if the same experience happens again when I light the next one. If they deliver the same way I will go ahead and buy a full box. Some things are worth repeating and this feels like one of them.

A longer look at the cigar will come later once I have smoked a couple more of them side by side. For the moment I am just glad I happened to spot that band. Otherwise this one might have stayed forgotten for another year or two, which would have been a real shame. In a world that moves too fast most of the time, a good cigar still has the power to make you stop and pay attention. Some of them are worth the wait and the rediscovery. This one certainly was.z
