Drop Cigar Club The Mascot

DROP Cigar Club is the boutique cigar shop and club founded by Kyle Gellis of Warped Cigars, where small-batch and limited releases are the main event. Gellis blends every cigar DROP puts out, so each release comes from the same hands, whether it’s a hyper-limited run or an everyday smoke.

The Mascot is the line built for the everyday side of that lineup. It’s named after the cigar-smoking ghost that serves as DROP’s mascot and shows up on their stickers and merch. It’s meant to be approachable and easy on the wallet, and it’s a natural first pick for anyone new to the brand. It’s rolled in Estelí, Nicaragua, and sold in 5-packs and 25-count bundles.

Review

First Third

Earthy leather, earthy espresso, and salted peanuts on the finish. The draw is a bit tight, but not too bad. A slight dark cherry note emerges along with woody notes, leather, and dark chocolate. The flavors stay on the palate and finish. Leather and dark cherry continue, with leather and pepper on the finish. Chocolate mousse and nuts come through, still with leather and dark chocolate and light pepper on the finish. There’s a sweet chocolate aroma to the cigar, which is very enjoyable, and a slight sweetness to the leather and espresso notes on the finish.

Second Third

The second third starts with peppery chocolate notes, with leather and espresso on the finish. It’s similar to the first third, but a little more robust. A slight creamy note and a nutty note are added. Dark cherry continues to come out along with a prominent woody note. I’m almost getting a peanut butter note as well, with leather, espresso, and pepper on the finish. Leather starts to dominate again near the end of the second third, with a slight sweetness and pepper on the finish.

Final Third

The final third starts with heavy leather and dark chocolate notes, with big espresso notes on the finish. A slight caramel note comes through on the palate and on the finish. Leather continues to be the predominant note, with some cedar coming in, plus espresso and pepper on the finish. I’m still getting a slight peanut butter note on the finish, which is different from your standard nutty, peanut, or almond notes. Leather and a little caramel continue, with espresso and pepper on the finish. The sweetness starts to die down, leaving cedar, leather, and pepper on the finish.
